A parable?

Imagine a hypothetical situation where a team of vicious thieves plots an exceptionally violent bank robbery in the downtown financial district of a major city. Numerous anomalies are noticed during the commission of this crime.

The bank tellers are not able to send out an alarm to the police even though banks have numerous hidden silent alarms for foiling robbery. The guards at the bank somehow take much longer to call the police for assistance than they have done on previous occasions, raising questions among bank customers whether orders were given to the the guards to "stand down" and not interfere.

The police take an extraordinarily long amount of time to show up on the scene, despite an unblemished record of fast response to prior robberies.

The cops who do eventually respond are not dispatched from the nearest police station, but from a suburban police force many miles away that travels far below emergency speeds to intercept the robbers. Some of the responding officers travel the exact opposite direction from the bank when they do leave the station, and arrive on the scene too late to catch the criminals.

The criminals are business partners of the chief of police and the Mayor, the Mayor’s youngest brother is a director of the company providing security to the bank, and the City’s comptroller (in charge of the money) came from a company in charge of remotely accessing the bank’s electronics (which could explain the lack of transmission of an alarm at the start of the robbery).

The City Council passes new laws immediately after the robbery to crack down on the financial freedoms of the town’s citizens, using the pretext that the police had an "intelligence failure" caused by inadequate budgets and inability of different departments to properly communicate with each other.

The police do not act surprised when notified the robbery is underway. The commander of the nearest police station continues working at his desk despite the robbery across the street. The Mayor is holding a photo opportunity at a nearby elementary school, and continues reading to second graders even after his assistant whispers in his ear that bank robbers had just committed the largest mass murder in the city’s history.

The police forces of the city and nearby cities were following the robbers before their assault on the bank, and the identity of the robbers (as declared by police spokespersons after the fact) is disputed by press accounts that several of the robbers have good alibis for being in other cities at the time.

Long after the fact, information surfaces that the police were conducting practice exercises simulating official response to bank robbers. Some of the responding officers were away at this "war game" at the police training academy and therefore were unable to apprehend the perpetrators. The honest cops who were in the station were confused by other drills simulating robberies at the other banks in the city, drills that were scheduled by the top political and police leadership of the city at the same time as the real robberies, which made it difficult for the honest cops to determine which bank to protect until after the crimes were completed.

The newspapers report that nearby towns warned the police that the robbery was about to happen, but never collect all of these warnings into one report to show the overwhelming evidence that a faction of the City’s elite deliberately allowed the robbers to act unhindered.

A few parts of this story are later described in a popular film made by one of the city’s most notorious dissident film makers. This film shows how the Mayor had no response when informed of the robbery, yet declines repeated offers to depict the refusal of the police to follow standard operating procedures or the fact that top police officials simultaneously scheduled simulations that paralyzed the police reactions. The mayor’s opponents refuse to consider any suggestions that the bank robbery was an "inside job" despite a considerable amount of evidence, and decline repeated opportunities to mention these events during the mayor’s re-election campaign.

The media avoid the story because of

foundation grants from philanthropic organizations tied to the city’s business elite,
fear of reprisal by the robbers’ backers, and
the ridicule factor encountered by citizens who find it difficult to believe in official complicity.
This last factor is exacerbated by the plotters’ tactic of leaking most of the true facts of the conspiracy to anti-semitic websites, bad TV shows and obviously unreliable writers who are not considered credible. Even the region’s liberal, "alternative" newspaper that had previously published accurate reports about the Mayor’s corruption scandals attacks independent journalists who dare to describe these anomalies. In addition, the Mayor’s political assistants create their own websites and a documentary film that pretend to expose the Mayor’s complicity in the events, yet weave accurate information with bogus material in a desperate attempt to muddy the waters that make it difficult for the citizens to figure out the truth.

i got the little alarms that attach to the door, with the other half of the magnet attaching to the door jam. when i tested it out, it was MUCH louder than i expected. it absolutely scared the crap outta my dogs. i know their hearing is so much more sensitive than ours. My question is: is 105 dbA just too loud for them to handle? obviously they’re not gonna like having to listen to it, but if its not unbearable for them, my safety and peace of mind come first. But if its gonna hurt their ears or something like that i would rather not use it. they were freaked out for about 10 minutes after it went off that first time. so if anyone out their knows enough about dogs’ bodies to answer my question, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Home Security System?

Ok so we are moving next month into a house that we will be renting. Unfortunately, ADT & Brinks dont let renters use their services…which is ok because we dont plan to rent the house forever, so their products would probably be a waste of money anyway.

Ive been online FOREVER it feels like, looking for a home security system we can install ourselves. Ive heard wireless is the easiest way to go? We just dont want to have to pay a professional to come out and do it. I have NO idea how to find what Im looking for or what products actually do what we want them to do. So Im hoping that maybe somebody can steer me in the right direction if I describe what I hope to find…..

Like I said, wireless would be great. I want something not too difficult to use….we would like to be able to monitor all the windows and doors in the house (there isnt very many). And MOST OF ALL, I want something LOUD. Id want the siren/alarm to be able to be heard from the next door neighbors houses….I figure, if the alarm isnt very loud, what good does it do? Im hoping that if (God forbid) anyone ever tried to break in, the alarm would scare them away if they know everyone can hear it and cops may very well be on their way….

I have a 4yr old son and I want to do anything I can to assure a sense of safety in our house.

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated. Does anybody know of a system that I should purchase?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Our house has been broken into twice and attempted once in the last 6 months. Time to get an alarm system.

But, we have two problems…
1. We are near broke.
2. We have no home phone line.

Does anyone know a company that will do free installation of a system with a low monitoring fee? (like -15 / month) and any phone services that will provide a minimal landline near the same price?

Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

All answers are appreciated.
No one was home when the house was broken into – and it seems to happen in the daytime (as we are there at night). One day the basement (Outdoor entrance) lock was messed up and it looked like someone tried to get in. Another time the upstairs window (which was cracked in middle of summer) was open and screen was removed. Cat was outside and everything was rummaged through. And again yesterday, cracked storm window and opened only window on 1st floor with no lock. Rummaged through everything – took two inexpensive drills – and left back door open. Footprints in snow show that they looked around our pole barn but nothing really was gone.

DVD players, Playstation II, over 100 DVDs etc. were all left.

No money or jewelry kept there.

And we will be getting a dog in the spring.

I’m 28 and a stay at home mother of a 5 month old. My husband works 3rd shift (nights) We have an alarm and 2 dogs that bark if the wind blows! But I’m so scared to be alone. It’s not just being scared if someone will break in. I’m scared when it storms or if there would be a fire. I can’t sleep half the nights because I’m worried something will happen. It seems to be getting worse everyday! What can I do to get over this? I know I’m just being paranoid but it’s really getting to me. My husband has been working nights for years but this just started becoming an issue for me since the baby was born and I quit my job.

Obama was asked what he will do about the drug cartel problem coming into America killing each other and Americans – over 8,000 people have been killed in just one year in and around the borders over DRUGS! Obama said they were giving money to those border states to put up more surveillance cameras- that is not gonna stop them one bit is it?
