alarm system help it has a mind of its own?
We bought a house with a custom alarm system, We never paid any monthly fees at all. I thought that it wasn’t monitored, but one day i accidentally tripped the alarm and police came. Is this system illegal?
It is also hooked up to smoke detectors and co2 detectors that call the fire department if it is triggered. I know the system is connected to a phone line.
This was a custom built home that we bought from someone. I called HOA and said they never heard of it or provide any alarm services to residents.
so my question is this legal?

Depends on where you live, you will have to call you local Police/Sheriff Department and find out if an alarm permit is required. If there is a permit required then yes. If not then no. However, you might be charged after a cretin number of false alarms with police dispatch. If you do not pay for monitoring, make sure you call the alarm company and find out who does. If the contact information they have is wrong then they will not call you to verify the alarm, and the police/sheriff will come no matter what. Also about the fire alarm. Check with the fire department for a separate alarm permit, most don’t require one, but will charge the owner of the house, a fee after so many false alarms.
