As of now I have one normal alarm clock and set a few alarms on my cell phone, but I still just turn them right off when they sound and go back to sleep.

What are some methods you have used to really utilize the waking-up abilities of an alarm clock?

My boyfriend works nights and I work days, he has the hardest time getting out of bed. I have tried everything that I can think of to get him out of bed. He will not wake up to an alarm, he will not wake up to a phone or anything. We have tried setting alarms in the other room so he has to get up to turn it off and he wont even hear it. Does anyone have any ideas? He has to keep his job.

Alright, here the situation. My parents have an alarm system that has alarms on the doors and windows. All are magnets. Our alarm has a chime feature that lets them know if a window or door is opened. I can diable the chime sometimes, but only if one of them aren’t sleeping by the alarm. How can I get past these alarms without triggering it in any way?

I’ve always been a total night owl. My last job never required me to be at work before 10:30am, which was perfect for me. I’d go to be sometime after midnight and be well rested. When I’ve had previous jobs that required me to be at work at 7:30 or 8:00 am, I’d still go to bed at midnight and usually catch a short nap after lunch.

The problem is that my new job requires me to leave the house by 6:30 am. I have been unsuccesfully trying to get to bed earlier for a month now. I am completely unable to fall asleep before midnight, and often it’s 1 or 2 am. It’s not like I have insomnia or an inability to sleep, because on weekends I’ll actually sleep 10 or 12 hours straight. I have no problem sleeping, it’s just that my sleep schedule seems to want to be about 1am until 10 am or so.

I’m usually so sleep deprived at work that I’m constantly in danger of nodding off. Plus I feel like a zombie. Sometimes I take a nap as soon as I get home, but lately I’ve been trying to aviod napping. I hoped that if I don’t let myself nap or sleep in on weekends, I’ll get so tired I can actually fall asleep before midnight. Trouble is, it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m exhausted, but I just can’t fall asleep until midnight. I really don’t want to take sleeping pills. I have enough trouble waking up in the mornings as it is, and I’m terrified I’m going to miss work one of these days. I actually set 4 alarms, and have managed to sleep through 3 of them. It’s so scary I’m considering adding a 5th one. I can sleep through even the loudest alarm in the morning. I’m sure I would sleep through a fire alarm, so hopefully we never have a fire

Any suggestions as to how to alter my natural sleep cycle to be more like normal people? My parents are always in bed by 9pm and have been that way their whole lives. Dunno where I came from…

I built a latched alarm using a relay switch. The first one I built works fine, but after copying the circuit, the new latched alarms I built only stay on (latched) for a few seconds. I have a 40A 12V relay and a 12V 1.5A power source. Thank you for your help.

Back when i was about 15 I was dating this boy for about a year. It was an abusive relationship and was very quickly getting worse and often times he had threatened to kill me/shoot me/ push me down the stairs/ anything to cause harm. About 1 month before our break up weird things started to happen. First it began with my cellphone. One day i tried calling him and my phone screen to just went white and made a static noise. I tried calling my house phone to see if it was just my phone but the call went through no problem. I tried calling once again my boyfriend number and the same thing happened. White screen and a static noise that seemed to be put on speaker phone. I thought it HAD to be my phone so i took out my sim card and put it in an old phone and called the house phone again. And everything was normal. Then i tried calling my boyfriend. SAME THING. White screen. White noise. I thought that it was a little weird and something gave me the feeling of protection. About a week later after that incident i was sleeping in my room and in all of the rooms in my house had a fire alarm/smoke detector. I was woken up my the fire alarm in my room going off. Extremely loud. No smoke. I looked at the clock and it was 3:00 am. It woke up my parents and i walked down the hallway and realized it was only the alarm in my room going on. I though i might have left my hair straightener on or something with heat but i checked and nothing. I pushed the reset button with a broom and went back to bed. The same thing happened 5 days in a row. Same time. 3:04 am. 3: 01 am. 3:06 am. For five days. I was getting the feeling it meant something. The night that it stopped i had a dream. It was weird. It was me asking what the alarms meant. If they had a meaning. And Some sort of indian or indian tribe told me it did have a meaning and that it meant to be very careful of what im doing. And to stay safe. I woke up and that was all i could think about. The first thing i could thing of that was unsafe was my abusive boyfriend. I didn’t tell him of these things happening. That weekend me and my family were heading up to Lake Tahoe at the heavenly resort for a weekend stay. We were on one of the top floors and we were settling in to get ready for bed and i had been desperately trying to get a hold of my boyfriend. I must have called him 15 times. When i was leaving a voice message on his voice mail the alarm on our floor went off. It was extremely loud and was recorded on the voice mail. I hung up as the alarm continued and a handy man had come up to our floor and said that there was a malfunction. After they got the alarms to stop my boyfriend had finally called me. He had nothing nice to say and i ended up crying in the hotel hallway. He had told me we weren’t together and that he was with someone else last night. After loads of crying he said he would give me another chance. So i felt relieved and was able to go to bed that night. The alarm had went off on our floor probably a good 6 or 7 more times that night. After the weekend was over and i had got back home me and my boyfriend broke up a few days later. And all of this unexplained behavior had stopped completely. I am now 19 years old and do not speak to him. But still these events go unexplained. Sorry this is so long. This is the first time sharing this to others who might have experienced something similar. If you have please respond. Or if you have an idea who or what or if this was to protect me or if you have and comments please respond. Thank You.

On the top of the door is a little white disk. Directly above it on the frame is another white disk. I believe these are sensors. What I want to know is how can i trick the system into thinking its shut? I cant go out my windows because they have alarms on them to. I also cant turn off my system cuz my parents will know. What can I use to prevent the alarm from beeping when I open the door?

I was going to go with ADT or something similar, but I am not trying to accrue a monthly bill at this moment in time. I know that some monitoring is quite inexpensive, but please don’t give me any of these choices. I probably will go that route in the future….just not right now.

I have checked out X10 and some other ones, particularly one found on this site: http://www.efindoutthetruth.com/Alarms.htm. I was looking at the Wireless Home & Office Alarm System Package #1. I know with these systems there are no monitoring; however I can program it to call law enforcement or household numbers should there be a problem. Can someone recommend the best options available and why you think it is one of the best options. Also, please add if there are any cons BESIDES monitoring or anything else already mentioned. I run a in home daycare and it is required that when 1 fire alarm goes off that they all do. Is this a hard task to accomplish or a simple fix? All my alarms are already hard wired they just dony all go off at once. Any advice will i have to hire someone to fix this?

i got the little alarms that attach to the door, with the other half of the magnet attaching to the door jam. when i tested it out, it was MUCH louder than i expected. it absolutely scared the crap outta my dogs. i know their hearing is so much more sensitive than ours. My question is: is 105 dbA just too loud for them to handle? obviously they’re not gonna like having to listen to it, but if its not unbearable for them, my safety and peace of mind come first. But if its gonna hurt their ears or something like that i would rather not use it. they were freaked out for about 10 minutes after it went off that first time. so if anyone out their knows enough about dogs’ bodies to answer my question, it would be much appreciated.
