The fire alarms in my home are hard wired. When we first moved in 14 years ago, they would chirp for no reason (that we could determine – batteries). About 5 years ago we renovated and put an addition on, doubling the size of our home. We discussed the issue with the electrician who was working on the addition and he said he would look into it. Well, as this was 5 years ago, I really can’t remember what he said, but supposedly everything was ok when he left. Until it wasn’t.
Most recently, the chirping began off and on again. A few months ago, we replaced the batteries on every single alarm and here we are again, the chirping started up again a few days ago.
Does anyone have any idea what else it could be?
Thank you,
Jeanne

My smoke detector began chirping at 4:27am today. Don’t they just love doing that? So I’ve done a lot of researching on here, and everyone is saying to replace the batteries on my smoke detector, but I can’t open up the detector itself. What’s more is that it’s hard-wired to the ceiling, except when I removed the smoke detector from the ceiling, it seems as if they were never really connected to begin with, so I don’t know what I should do now.

At about 1AM a smoke detector went off in my home. The alarm sounds for about 5 seconds and then stopped. I walked around the entire house and found no signs of smoke or anything else out of the ordinary. Is there a reason it went off? Could be be faulty? We changed the batteries not too long ago so I don’t think that’s the problem. Thanks for the help!

I checked the batteries in the thermostat and they’re still good. My furnace’s pilot light is on, it’s turned on and the fuse is not blown. The breaker is not tripped. Incidentally, yesterday Comcast installed digital phone and they were doing something with my ADT alarm box, which is close to the furnace, though I don’t know if it’s on the same breaker. I have to wonder if something they did caused the issue. Any ideas on what else I can do/check?
The fan doesn’t come on, but I don’t know how to check the transformer. Do you mean the transformer on the thermostat? Would replacing the thermostat likely fix the issue? The thermostat is around 26 years old.
Thanks for the attempts to answer, but it turned out the safety switch on the furnace had broken off this weekend. I had to reassemble the switch and duct tape it in so that it wouldn’t fall out again.

My garage door remote device’s range is not as great as it used to be. I replaced the batteries but to no effect. Is it the opener itself or maybe there is dirt on the sensor?

I put a new 9V battery in my smoke alarm. It was installed with new construction. The green light stays on even if the battery is removed, so I am assuming it is hot wired to electricity. It is still beeping. I have tried 3 new batteries. What to do????

Why is it chirping ? I cannot reach it to replace the batterys and my dad will not be home to change the batteries until six its 1:23 and its getting really anoying. I think its the batteries but man is it anoying and i closed the door and its still chirping. Will it run out of battery in a few hours or will it keep chirping until six ?
There is no way for me to reach it and none of my neighbors can reach it. Do i just have to put up with it chirping for a few hours ? the ceiling is 8ft and our ladder is sadly lacking in height and our neighbor with the big ladder will not be home until seven tonight.
