Stores like circuit city, or best buy. It seems that to go through months of surveillance videos to find out what happened to a laptop or camera would be too cumbersome. Think about it, all those cameras, and you have to check each one’s recordings. Or, do these stores outsource these tasks to different companies? It seems to me that surveillance videos are more of a phsycological deterent than a real phorensics tool, but what do you think, or know?

Hi, im looking for a good set of surveillance camera, thats also fair priced. The cameras will be installed in a store. One of the cameras will be aiming at the cash register, so i want it to be clear enough to see the cash thats being hand out. I also want it be to able to connect to a PC, and works on a network. I like to keep an eye on the store when im at home.

On commercial property in most areas there usually is strong video surveillance, yet countless times, police and prosecutors do not use video surveillance as evidence in criminal trials. Why is this so?, and What is it that prosecutors are hiding by not using ‘video surveillance’ to prove beyond a doubt that an accused is actually guilty of a the crime. I’ve seen it happen various times, where police do not view available videos to actually see if their ‘suspect’ in fact committed the crime.Police then go ahead and arrest a person for other reasons and totally avoid the surveillance.
The defense then, obtains it themselves, and the charges get dropped.
If I was a cop and I knew there was video surveillance where a crime took place, the first thing I would do is obtain the surveillance video to actually see what happened. It’s just common sense! Usually video is permitted as evidence in court as long as it was legally recorded. Come on people, if a crime takes place on commercial property there is a high change it was captured on video surveillance.
I disagree with you. The cameras that are used these days usually will identify a person. Especially, if its been established that the person in question was there at the time, the video was being recorded.
A video is more accurate than what people say at least in many cases. If the video is available in such a case and the prosecution does not use it, than i would highly question the accusations of the prosecution. Again, a available surveillance video would actually show what really happens, despite what people say. People’s accounts of events often vary from person to person, and people forget things, a video recording is not something you can argue with.
i think its an awful thing for police to only use video surveillance when its convenient to them, instead of using it to find out the truth.

The wire taping/surveillance laws in TN are pretty reasonable. However, I need to know If I can record video INSIDE my apartment when maintenance comes to fix things. A few times, I have noticed certain anomalies after a work order has been completed. I would like to place cameras in my living room and bedroom…but the legal jargon makes me apprehensive to do so…

I suppose the broader question would be: Does apartment management/maintenance have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" while servicing MY apartment?

Is it weird that within 3-4 months 3 homes on my block (that I know of) alone have been robbed and police never find any information or leads?? And these robberies usually takes place in broad daylight, how can this be? I want to complain but don’t know where to go.
fyi, I had a laptop stolen from my house so ab 2days lateri walked up 3 blocks to a lsmall electronice store to see if n e 1 went in there and they didi!! they have cameras but it erases every 1st of the month and records over it.. so I missed it by 1 day…if the lazy detectives would of done this minor investigation the next day the robbers would have been caught….

So the prosecution would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it is indeed the defendant on camera. He doesn’t have to prove his innocence, they have to prove his guilt. Cameras are a sh*tty way around our constitutional rights.

The theory of the Foveon sensor sounds great. However, when I look at work produced by cameras with more conventional sensors those pictures seem quite beautiful. So is switching camera systems to a Foveon based sensor really worth it?
