I have a 3 month old mini schnauzer puppy, and I live in a 6-floor apartment building. My building has annual fire alarm/smoke detector testing sessions…Basically inspectors and firefighters come to the building and test to make sure that all apartment units’ alarms work. So starting from noon until 7:30 pm, ALL the alarms in the whole building are gonna be ringing repeatedly. :/ It’s a pretty damn annoying day, but it’s only once a year. Anyways, they purposely choose a weekday, avoiding any holidays, in hopes that they wouldn’t bother too many people, but my puppy and I are home tomorrow. It’ll be the first time my puppy will hear those irritating and ear-piercingly LOUD smoke detectors, and I’m worried about what her reaction will be. Until last year, I’d just stay outside all day to avoid all the headache-y noise, but this year I have a young puppy and taking her on a whole-day walk outside isn’t an option cuz it’s raining 50+ mm of rain tmrw. I mean, I’d have an umbrella and raincoat, but what about my puppy? Yeah, just great. So…what should I do? Do I comfort her if she barks? I’d hardly blame her for barking though, the noise is seriously loud..
And come to think of it, I wonder what all the other dogs owners in my building (there’s quite a lot of them) do on this day?

i want a medium to large dog that is going to be attentive and good at watching aka barking when someones at the door etc but also loyal friendly fun etc.
a golden retriever would be perfect but unfortunately they are terrible watch dogs and would more likely lick an intruder than alert me one is there. i wish i could combine a golden retrievers personality with a shepherds alertness
anyone have any suggestions about what type of dog, if any, comes close to fitting what i just said? lol

My nearly 3 yo staffie cross whippet is gawjus, she can be the most loving kind pup like dog ever! But yet she can turn so visious, atm she is living wit my mum, my mum has a labrador hes a big softy, my dog has been bought up wit him, although she often turns on him wit out any reason, she will bark n go for people she dont like, she hates babies, so we cant have any on my younger cousins round to visit or she will try attack them. She hates noises like the fire alarm, it really upsetting as wit us she is the most lovely dog, she loves cuddles, she never snatches or trys to attack me or my family she been bought up with.. Im afraid as me n my older brothers are starting to have families, so i know she couldnt be around our babies.. I know i will have to take her to a dogs home but im afraid if i do then they might have to put her down
what is the best thing to do, is there anywhere you can take dogs like this to live and be helped?

I wanted to do a poll to see how many people leave their dogs at home while they are at work without coming home during break. I have a 2 month old puppy and we are trying to decide if it would be OK to leave her at home now in a little open space all day (8 hours) while we are at work. We are currently going home everyday while we work to let the puppy out and feed her and just want opinion. Thank!

There have been a bunch of break ins that have been going on during the day. Any suggestions to help deter home robberies/invasions in a flag lot. We have 2 dogs, flood lights, firearm, non automatic gate however, we don’t close it. I was thinking about putting up a fake security camera although not sure about wiring, or maybe security signs/stickers. Don’t have the money at the time for a security system so looking for cost effective solutions. Any thoughts experiences. thanks.

I’m a single mother living in a 3 bedroom townhouse/apt in Las Vegas approx 1350 sq. ft. Besides the fact that the rent is not cheap compared to living in a much bigger home there is only 1 smoke alarm and it’s actually on the second floor. I looked on the several websites. police, city, fire etc…. and found nothing as far a regulations per rooms or square footage….I just want to know if anyone has any info cause I don’t feel it’s enough but can’t find anything, although I have my protection and dogs for anyone trying to break in, it scares me to think that if anything ever happened I would only wake up AFTER the 1st floor has already burned down. Please only serious answers because I’m not saying I’m too cheap to buy smoke alarms (after all I know I’m paying too much rent here as it is, and would buy several in a second if I thought it wasn’t enough) I just want to know if anyone feels like me….that maybe just one in this size of house is not enough especially just on the second floor.

Silly question, but just wanted to know. Also, I have two pit bulls and was wondering which insurance agencies do not have dog restrictions. I have Nationwide car insurance and I would have to take my dogs to obedience school to have homeowners with them and my husband and I don’t really have the time for that.

hes a 4 year old staffordshire bull terrier, and hes very gentle.
Today after going out for 2 hours, we came home to find the dog shaking uncontrolably and panting. We were all wondering what they hell was wrong, we hugged him, petted him, gave him plenty of water ect.
We think that the noise of the fire alarm (which was warning us it was out of battery), beeping very loudly scared him, it took him hours to calm down and relax. When i took him out in the back incase he needed to be outside, he heard a motorbike engine, and started shaking and even when the bike went he was shaking for hours after.
We think he was having panic attacks as hes never been so scared ever, and weve never seen him act like that before.
Can dogs have panic attacks?
If so, what should i do next time he has one?
If so, what should i do.
If not, what could be wrong with him?
How come hes never been scared of those noises beforehand?
thanks anyone, hes fine now by the way, sleeping.
