I am thinking of installing Comodo Firewall or Zone Alarm. But I really want to know if one is really required on a home PC? I already have Threat Fire and AVG Free installed in my machine. Does Firewall protect against malware, adware etc? Which Free licensed Firewall will be the best?

I am running WindowsXP w/sp2 and having lots of problems & was wondering if there is such a thing as too much protection on a computer. I have the original firewall but I am also running; Windows Defender, Windows Antispyware, Errordoctor, Errorkiller, AVG, & Spybot Search and Destroy. I keep having all kinds of problems & was wondering if I am sending conflicting instructions by having so many scans. If I do have too many which ones should I keep?

I only want people who are going to give me proxies to answers. If you are going to say its illegal then don’t answer(because my school is not run by a government agency it is not illegal and the worst I can get for using a proxy is loss of computer privileges and that would be my problem) I do NOT ask questions to get lecture’s about them, so if u want to be a smartass then go ahead but I just remember no matter what u people say i will not change my mind about this.
(Here is an example of what 2 people said.)
From HasJ
You can’t get past the blocks legally using a proxy because circumventing a computer security system is a federal crime. You might want to delude yourself into thinking it’s all legal but the fact is it’s not. Since your school is likely run by a government agency you are also likely breaking numerous other laws. The worst thing that can happen is that you infect your schools system with a series of malicious bots, hackers use your schools system to do some crime and the FBI comes knocking at your door. Not likely, but that is the worst thing that could happen. (The FBI this is not a federal offense because if it was then most everyone in America would be in jail)
From: Mr.Quix
1) Circumventing your School Firewall or Hacking it is illegal.

2) A violation of your School usage polices

3) Asking questions that break the law or help others do it is a violation of the YA community guidelines.

Please beware that malicious responders post fake links in the security forum if you click on one of them you could infect your School systems with a dropper virus you should be aware that you assume full responsibility if this happens your Parents will get the expensive bill for any and all repairs.

Take a moment of your time to review the YA community guidelines before posting any questions thanks!
(If the computer got a virus I would take care of it I am not just a hacker but I really good at fixing computers their hasn’t been a virus yet that I could not fix, and again it is not illegal because if it was most everyone would be in jail.)
And if you do leave a negative comment then don’t be one who dose not allow e-mail
As for me being a hacker, yes i could just get around any blocks i want by hacking but That IS illegal.

I read that WEP is not safe, as well as WPA-PSK. It’s costly to have WPA or WPA2 with RADIUS server for home user. VPN would be a good idea, but VPN client software is expensive for Netgear wireless router (the only affordable wireless router with VPN).

So, I don’t know what the decent options are for my under 0 budget. All I have in mind is something with:

- Dual active Firewall (NAT and SPI).
- Intrusion Detection (IDS).
- WPA and WPA2 (PSK type, I guess).
- Ability to disable SSID broadcast and DHCP server.
- Logging feature of clients that request connection.
- Access policy control (support VLAN).

If it’s possible I still want the VPN, but I’m just daydreaming probably. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
