I want to get a cat. My alarm does not have the option to accommodate pets or to turn the motion sensor off.I cannot put her in another room. How do you guys stop this or does she just stay near her food and water and sleeping couch? thank you :D
Its an alarm inside. Its basically lasers all over the room and if anything moves it goes off…. quite annoying :L What about leaving her under the stairs(its not a closet just open space) would that be good?

or some other kind of alert (I was given the suggestion to install a security system that also monitors for fire). Now a friend tells me these fail if the power goes out. The reason I ask is that I recently had a house fire that left my home unlivable and destroyed all my possessions, also took some of my pets. I had taken all the precautions one would think necessary, several working smoke alarms including a hard wired one, and co2 alarms on each floor. The fire broke out during the day when neighbors were at work or school. No one was around to hear the alarms. (the houses on my street are not that close together and it is winter where I live so all windows were shut. Now I am staying in a hotel but I will be going back to live on my own at some point. I am now terrified of another fire. This was totally accidental. They think the refrigerator started the fire or wiring in the wall, it is still under investigation.. the point being it can happen to any one at any time. Just to mention I am a nonsmoker and have always been almost ocd at checking everything several times before I leave the house and yet this still happened….. I am looking for suggestions of something I could put in place relatively inexpensively. I will get some insurance money for my belongings and I want to put it toward making sure this never happens again. Bless you for any suggestions and have a great New Year.

ADT or Binks?

For home security, which company is better – ADT or Brinks.

We have pets in our house, but they are usually outside if we are away (weather permitting).

Also, some of our doors are a bit old and may not close all the way, so my family would need an alarm system that will tell which zones/sensors are faulted (I know Brinks has some systems that don’t have any kind of display).

And also, on a side note, what is the difference between "armed stay" and "armed night stay?"

My neighbor has decided that she would like to place a security system in her back yard to record if neighbor hood pets are going into it. I would like to know what the Laws are in Pennsylvania pertaining to this system. Can any part of my yard be captured? Are signs required to be posted that she has a recording security system? And what are my rights if my yard/house is being recorded?

Should we try to break the contract?

This week (Tuesday 11/11) we (my husband and I) looked at a house that we were interested in renting. We were planning on moving in with my sister-in-law and her husband. However, that same day, my water broke (I was pregnant) and I went to the hospital. We really liked the house and was supposed to go back Tuesday night to sign the contract and pay the deposit. (We had agreed to pay all of it, and then my sister-in-law and her husband would pay us half of it back.) Because I was in the hospital, the agreement was that they would bring us our copy of the contract to review before we moved in. However, that night they ended up going over to the house and signing the contract without asking questions, reviewing it, or talking to us about it. The deposit has already been made and we already started moving stuff into the house. Now that we have gotten a chance to glance over the contract, there are many questionable things (didn’t ask for SSNs, security deposit is 0, Pet Deposit is 0, and 1st month’s rent is 0, yet the total amount due to move in is only 00. Later in the contract, it says we aren’t allowed to have pets. It also says we have to pay the HOA fee, but we are responsible for the maintenance of the front yard.) I also did not see any contact information for the rental company and they didn’t ask for any information besides a phone number and our names. Now that My husband, baby, and I are home from the hospital, we have been thinking about it all, and don’t feel comfortable about it. Is it too late to break the lease? Is this even a legal lease? Should we continue to move?

I have an alarm with an adjustable alarm. I would like for it to be annoying enough to make intruders leave but not so bad that it will damage my cat’s hearing. Cats, afterall do have something akin to sattelite dishes on their head. Any ideas to what decible level is safe for cats or pets in general?
