I have been paying monthly for a security system monitoring service for several years. An intruder set off the alarm last week but the monitoring system did not call police. It turns out that they have not been online for almost a year since we changed our phone service to Vonage. Since they have not been connected for the whole period, are we due a refund for the full 12 months or just a portion? Is it their responsibility to detect when we are not online?

I want to ditch my phone service but feel as though i can’t because of my house alarm. Is there a way around this?

We don’t have a traditional "land-line" our phone service is thru the cable co and ADT works just fine with it. Cable phone is the only option we have in our area. We have cable broadband so we wonder if our alarm system would still work if we switched to Vonage? Any help appreciated!

Although my house is wired for regular rj11 and the existing alarm system is hooked up to it, I have no intention of purchasing phone service. There’s no reason to since everyone has cell phones, and it would be stupid to pay a monthly fee for a service that is only used for an alarm.

Does anyone know if there’s a product out there that either converts existing RJ31X to function over the internet, or an alarm system that uses internet to communicate alarm status to whatever service.

I am aware of the cellular options, but apparently that alone is an expensive upgrade that adds another ‘line’ to you house. Not interested in that.
I was actually looking at the elk systems. However, they don’t notify a service, but can be setup to notify you directly via internet. I guess I’m looking more for a service that will accept incoming alerts via internet and notify proper authorities.

Right know I have regular att phone service, and a adt alarm system, if i get digital phone from timewarner cable can my alarm system still work or do I have to buy additional equipment?

Just curious, we have a little office space, but are using cell phones – haven’t hooked up a phone line. I want to get the "Mace Wireless Home Security System" from Walmart, but do I need a phone line for that to work? It dials numbers so I’m assuming it has to be connected to a phone line. Just wondering because I can’t buy it from the store, so I need to know ahead of time if I’m in for making another bill for phone service.

I want to drop my phone service with AT&T, but I understand that VOIP service does not work with home alarm systems unless you get extra hardware for a charge. Will I need to keep a basic phone service just to have a dial tone to work with my alarm service?
